Cliffs of Moher, Ireland on Day 7 - 9/6/12

We were going to Cliffs of Moher in County Clare's. The journey from Dublin to there about 3 hours. We started our journey around 11.00 a.m. and reached there 1.00 p.m.  Along the way to this Cliffs of Moher there were lot of B&B and a long stretch of beaches and beautiful sea views. It is best to stay around here for a day or two to walk around and see the surrounding beautiful sights.

There was a car park where you pay for the entrance and parking fees.  Near the car park was beautiful  rolling fields and mountains.  At the entrance of the Cliffs of Moher, there were a few shops built in the hills. The main restaurant and cafe is 2-storey building with toilets facilities and gifts shops.  The meals here was quite expensive but the terrace of the restaurant where  we can view the cliffs of Moher.

Cliffs of Moher are about 214 metres in heights above sea level. It stretch along County Clare's Atlantic Coast. After we have some lunch at the restaurant then we walk toward  the cliffs  and can see the O'Brien's Tower.  There is a long flights of steps leading to this tower.  The entrance fee for this tower is 3.00 euro per person and it has a narrow spiral stairs up to the top of the tower to view the surrounding  areas surrounded the Cliffs of Moher.

We can view the Aran Islands, Galway Bay and the twelve Pins loop head from the tower. After viewing the tower we went to trek  the Cliffs of Moher.  Amazingly, these cliffs do not have any fence or barrier to stop the locals or tourist from viewing the beautiful view at the edge of the cliffs.

The texture face of the rock seem delicately handcraft by ancient hands.  Walking along the cliffs to the light house which at the end of the Cliffs of Moher. There aren't a lot of tourists willingly to walk to the end of the Cliffs as most of them walk about half way of the cliffs and turn back. Cliffs of Moher is a National Reserve Park.

Toward the end part of the cliffs the path became uneven with the rocks and there weren't any walking path to lead to the light house but it still accessible to the light house.  My nephews, Trixie and Ben,  were ahead of us and they have finished viewing the light house and walking back to the car park. We still have a long way to walk to reach the light house.  At the Cliffs of Moher we can  only view the surrounding sea and mountains at the top of the rocks but  not accessible to the beach.

It worth the effort to walk to the end of this cliffs where you can view a panorama view of the Cliffs of Moher and the surrounding Aran Islands and Galway Bay. The light house is an old building but can't access to the top.  It took us about 4 or 5 hours to walk  and back from the light house.  By the time we reached the entrance where the children waiting for us it almost 7.30 p.m. or 8.00 p.m.  We were ready to head back home as it will be another 3 hours drive back.

We were not so lucky as the sun set was around 10.30 p.m. to 11.00p.m. and during the drive back the surroundings all lighted up with the sunset and it was so beautiful around here.  For those whom interested in trekking and it is best to stay around here at the B&B to enjoy the beauty of this place. We were too rush just driving to view this place in a day.

We reached home around 11.30 p.m and have some Chinese meal delivered around at 11.45 p.m. A beautiful day well spend in walking and ready for bed as we were knackered.

  1. Absolutely beautiful images Poh, if these were mine I would definitely consider seeing if the local or national tourism board would be interested in purchasing some for their promotions and advertising.

Very much enjoyed the read of your experience, and love the fact you were able to enjoy Chinese food in such an wonderfully Irish setting - LOL ;^)

All the best my friend :^)
