A day at Shrewsbury, Shropshire

On 29th February 2012, the extra 1 day in February is known as lunar leap day.  We decided to visit  Shrewsbury, Shropshire. From my home, it took about one and half hours to reached there. Shrewsbury is a historic market town with unaltered medieval street. When we reached the town, in front of the tourist centre there is a car park.  We walk along the town centre, most of the shops are made of timber framing from the 15th and 16th century. We followed the sign boards pointing the directions of the  Abbey and Bear Steps.

As we were busy taking photos of the timber buildings around the centre. An old lady came to us and pointed at the top of the building. She said "The wooden panel on top of the windows - is history for this town and you must take a photo of this panel." We were blurred why she said that. Till we reached home then we know the answer for it. On this panel there was a crafted circle with picture of Margaret Thatcher and dated 22/11/1990 Poll Tax.  We then understood her reason why this was history. Margaret Thatcher had put through a new Poll Tax in 22 November 1990 and due to this she been forced to step down as the Prime Ministry of United Kingdom.

We came across the Bear steps and the Bear house.  Up the bear steps we there was the abbey. It was closed for renovation.  Then further up to the narrow paths leaded the way to Castle & Regimental Museum. As we walked back to pick our car up, we came across this row of Ireland's Mansion circa 1900 shop houses which located at the High Street.

Also came across rows of high street posh boutique shops and love the displays of the latest fashions of black and white stripes dresses and blouses displays. We had spent more than 2 hours strolling the town centre and had to rush back to our car because the parking ticket had expired.

I had never see so many chocolate shop houses around a town than this one.  We had enjoyed ourselves and won't mind to visit this place again.
